Timeless One - James Hanway
Timeless One - by James Hanway
I begin each sentence with hesitation.
Courses fade and I can no longer see my way.
I begin to feel the knives of my decision.
The slicing of your discretion.
Now I'm under water
Drowning so quickly I can see the fire.
I can't breathe to save my life
But suffocation can't change my mind.
Take away the clouds and uncover ivy.
Brush the dust, forgive the cobwebs
You already know what I'm going to say.
Rain falls hard without getting us wet
My heart beats so loud you can hear it.
Let's take a swim and fade away.
Now I'm under water
Drowning so quickly I can see the fire.
I can't breathe to save my life
But suffocation can't change my mind.
There's still a mountain between us.
I could stand here until tomorrow
But I'd have to find a way in.
Here we are in water
free from desert feelings.
It runs between us let's float away.
Now I'm under water
Drowning so quickly I can see the fire.
I can't breathe to save my life
But suffocation can't change my mind.
< Timeless One began as a poem and grew into a song a day or two after it was written. I was at the beginning of my adventures playing music - and wrote the poem in the backseat of a friend's car on the way to a gig. It was a time of new adventures and young romance - I was 22 and beginning my exploration of the adult world, and with it the first visions of betrayal and unrequited love. >
